CONTEMPORARY MEDIA LANDSCAPE IN SRI LANKA

In considering the evolution of human society, attention must be paid primarily to the factors that have shaped and guided contemporary human activities at various stages.

Human society in the 20th century. Accordingly, in focusing on analog technology and digital technology, it appears that human society has taken a step towards social media in the 20th century. Here, with the emergence of the Internet in the 6th decade of the twentieth century, the Internet has become the main weapon of human society in the twenty-first century.

Thus,
technology was fundamental to building social media. There the World Wide Web was born. In 2004, version 1.0 was launched as the first edition and Version 2.0 as the second edition.

In addition to this, two types of media can be seen, the traditional media and the new media, which later evolved into digital media.

A billboard print campaign also breaks through traditional media, allowing businesses to target a wider target audience through TV commercials and more. Meanwhile, the new media era begins two thousand years later. the new media technology sometimes knowns as web 2.0 include a wide range of web related communication tools , including blogs , wikis, online social networking virtual worlds and other social media platforms. After that, the digital media era will be born and the types of media that will be revealed through digital platforms including mobile phones, computers, postcards, and advertisements.

In this way, it is seen that the newspaper that was born in the traditional era of Sri Lanka, radio and television has undergone various changes nowadays.

Newspaper is a written publication consisting of unbound pages. The newspaper, which evolved into the category of print media, underwent many fundamental changes in the later society of broadcasting. Accordingly, by 2020, the number of readers reading newspapers gradually declined. With the Covid-19 situation in 2019, it was not even possible to find the kola needed to print newspapers, so with the interruption of printing, even the price of printed newspapers increased. The price of newspapers, which were between 60 and 70 rupees, was to be increased to 150. With the development of technology, the broadcasting of e-news papers started. The news was published on the newspaper screen on the internet. Young people and many middle-aged people watched the newspaper on the internet, YouTube, Facebook and turned to me.

Thus, the rise of electronic media became a challenge to reduce the demand of newspapers and morning news broadcasting through private channels was given priority.

In order to know the news immediately, breaking news was broadcast hour by hour through television and radio channels. We also have the ability to know news through the phone and have now managed to report news immediately through the app called Helakuru. But in digital rather than in newspapers, the issue of credibility has taken a back seat. The reason is that people who are addicted to newspapers do not pay much attention to the news presented by new media. Because issues such as sex are given a primary place in  1 the news.

Next is the radio media. It has been more than ten years since radio media was born in this world, Mesa became closer to mass media with the birth of sound media and its popularity.

It's no secret that radio is at a critical juncture in history, with the younger generation losing traditionalism and music services. In the past, literary and political programs were given priority and creativity was built. Radio has fostered creativity through radio dramas. But now, with the advancement of technology, improving interpersonal relationships, many FM channels have been closed and radio has become a very popular medium.

Priority has been given to such programs that motivate the youth through the above programs. And nowadays, radio stations are enabled through mobile phones, YouTube Facebook Live allows people to interact with the radio announcers and even sing songs as part of the feedback process. And listen to pandora sportify services. At present, a process can be seen in the current society where radio listeners are told to watch their radio programs and given money in order to improve. In addition to benefiting the people, let's think about whether there is something valuable that can be taken from the broadcasting of the current radio services. should be.

Next we will talk about television. Television is a visual medium that is cursed and invented by John Logie Baird. Television, which is gradually acquiring broadcasting rights, has become an essential part of family and friendship these days. In the past, there was one television per village, but now the situation has completely changed. The television that used to be black and white has now become a coloued television.
